DIY oorbellen/earrings 'Kokrobite'

Ik heb momenteel een lichte obsessie voor kleurrijke handgemaakte glaskralen uit Ghana. Ik bestelde een paar strengen bij een Etsyshop uit Ghana en ben zo in de wolken van hun vrolijke kleuren en patronen. De kralen zijn gemaakt van gerecycleerd glas en de patronen werden er met de hand opgeschilderd. Ik ben eigenlijk heel benieuwd hoe ze dat juist doen.  

Toch maakte ik er nog maar 2 paar bellen van (dit is het eerste paar), maar ik heb materiaal genoeg om er nog wat extra te maken als ik nog eens de juiste moment vind. 

At the moment I am slightly obsessed with colourful man made glass beads from Ghana. I ordered some strings of beads at an etsyshop from Ghana and I am so thrilled about their joyful colours and patterns. The beads are made from recycled glass and the patterns are hand painted. Actually I am very curieus about how they make them. 

So far I only made 2 pair of earrings with them (this was pair one), but I have enough material to make a lot more of them when I find the right moment. 

BENODIGDHEDEN/SUPPLIES

Materiaal/material

• 2 x 1 Ghanese kraal/Ghanaian bead 
• 2 x 1 tussenstukje/connector
• 2 x 1 gefaceteerd groen butonkraaltje/faceted green button bead
• 2 x 1 paillette
• 2 x 1 rode rocaille/red seed bead
• extra rocailles om het grote gat van de Ghanese kraal te dichten/extra seed beads to fill the big hole in the Ghanaian bead
• 2 x 1 nietstift/head pin
• oorhaakjes/ear wire

Gereedschap/tools

• 2 platbektangen/flat nose pliers
• rondbektang/round nose pliers
• kniptang/cutting pliers
• schaar/scissors

ZO MAAK JE HET/DIY

Ik moest truuken gebruiken om met de grote gaten van deze Ghanese kralen te kunnen werken. 

Omdat de nietstift er helemaal doorheen ging, gebruikte ik een paillette om het gat af te sluiten. En omdat die paillette groter was dan de kraal, moest ik ze wat bijknippen. 

I had to use some tricks to be able to work with the bog holes of the Ghanaian beads. The head pin went right through the hole, so I used a paillette to close it. And because the hole was to big, I had to cut it smaller. 

Ik vulde ook het gat wat op met rocailles. Anders wiebelt de kraal te hard op de nietstift. Rijg daarom aan een nietstift: de paillette + de Ghanese kraal + een aantal rocailles om het gat te vullen + de gefaceteerde buttonkraal + een rode rocaille .

I filled the hole a bit with some small seed beads. Otherwise the bead moves to much while wearing the earring. String onto a head pin 1 paillette + Ghanaian bead + some seed beads to fill the hole of the Ghanaian bead +  faceted button bead + red seed bead.

Maak een oogje/make a loop. 

Bevestig de hanger aan het tussenstukje/attach the pendant onto the connector. 

Aan de andere kant een haakje..../at the other side ear wire...

En klaar/done!
