DIY - herfstbellen met blaadjes/earrings with fall leaves + tip !

DIY - herfstbellen met blaadjes/earrings with fall leaves + tip !

Today I present to you a project with a lot of variation in it : it contains a piece of homemade wire, and some chain, and also some bead pendants with leaves. And as top of the bill I also have a great tip for you.
But you will be busy for a while, it's a time consuming project ;).
DIY - herfstbellen met blaadjes/earrings with fall leaves + tip !

BENODIGDHEDEN/SUPPLIES :
materiaal :
- metaaldraad.

material :

- wire, I used brass colored wire , 18 gauge
- ear wire
- not on the photo ( forgotten, sorry! ) but really necessary : a piece of chain. Not to light, not to big either : the links need to be big enough to get the wire or some head pins through.
- 6 tube beads
- 40 pink seed beads and 12 green ones
- 10 head pins or eye pins or  a piece of wire
- 10 brass colored leave pendants
tools :
- 2 flat nose pliers : one needs to have a smooth surface
- 1 round nose pliers
- cutting pliers
- a wig jig with pegs in different sizes
- a hamer and a small anvil or something that can be used as one.

First the piece of wire :
You can try to make this piece of wire with your pliers in case you don't have a wig jig. But it will be more difficult to bring balance in them and make 2 identical ones.

Take 2 big and 3 small pegs and put them in the wig jig as shown on the picture .
Coil the wire around them, the same way as shown on the picture .

Carefully remove the wire from the pegs. Now you need to bend the wire in it's right shape.

Gently squeeze the middle part until it's almost closed, fold the piece in shape and flatten it with the pliers with smooth surface.

Cut the loose ends at the loops and shape them.

To prevent the shape from changing ( and also because it is more beautiful ), you need to hamer the piece of wire gently at the anvil. I didn't hamer the loops because I was afraid they would become to big to pass through the chain.

Dan heb je dit ...
After hammering it looks like this :

Cut a piece of chain of 11 links and attach onto 1 of the loops.

Repeat this at the other side .
The length of your piece of chain depends on the width of your piece of wire and on the size of the links of your chain. Maybe you need to adjust the length of your piece of chain but be aware that you need to be able to attach 5 bead pendants in a balanced way.

TIP : I made earrings with long small bead pendants before and I experienced that often the pendants didn't keep their straight shape. I found a solution for that but you can only use this solution with head pins, eye pins or wire that's not to thick.

Before making the pendant, hamer the head pins. When you hammer a piece of metal wire, you strengthen the shape of the wire . This way the pendants will keep their shape .
At the picture below you see a non hammered head pin and a hammered one. As you can see the last one is more flat. That's why you can only use this method when the wire is not to thick : it still has to pas through the beads after hammering !

Make 5 bead pendants with loops at both ends. The pendants need to have different sizes.

Make 1  long one. Make 2 times 2 shorter ones.
The difference in size may be a few beads : the bigger the difference, the better looking the leaves.

Attach the longest pendant onto the central link of the chain.
Make sure to close the link completely to prevent the pendant from falling of.

Hang aan het andere oogje een blaadje.
Attach a leaf onto the other loop.

Repeat this by attaching a shorter pendant 2 links away from the central one.

Repeat this until all 5 pendants are attached onto the chain.

Make sure the leaves all point in the same direction.

Attach ear wire and earring 1 is finished.

Make another one to complete  fall for your ears :).
